The Amy Nicole Nita Trousers

I love this time of year. The time to start packing away the summer shorts and dresses and planning the autumn wardrobe.

This year I’m so ready for wearing something different than jeans, but really struggle to find RTW trousers that fit well. So trousers were next up on the sewing table!

I wanted a pattern that could be made dressy or casual (depending on the fabric) and something that would work in any season.

At only 5ft 3”, most trouser sewing patterns need quite a bit of adjusting to fit me well, but then I saw the Amy Nicole Nita trousers and they were exactly what I was looking for.

Amy is one of the few pattern designers who drafts for petite, I’ve made a few of her patterns and the fit has always turned out great. I made no adjustments at all and they fit like a glove.

The fabric that I chose was a gorgeous stone washed linen that I purchased from my Local fabric shop. It’s the perfect fabric for these trousers. It’s a heavier weight linen so they feel robust and hang very well.

The trousers were a pleasure to create. They have some tricky details which makes it more interesting and challenging to make. Amy does have a variety of great video tutorials for the more difficult areas such as zip and fly, welt pocket and stitched cuffs. I found them really useful as a refresher.

They did take quite a while to make, maybe 8 hours or so, but I honestly really enjoyed the whole process.

I love the little details. They have side pockets, front pleats, zip and fly, back darts, welt pocket and permanent cuffs. They have a really professional finish.

I adore the colour. It’s so autumnal and goes with so many tops in my wardrobe. The fit of the trousers are great. They are quite high waisted which I find quite flattering as I dont have much waist shape. They fit closely at the hips but without being too tight or uncomfortable. I love the back pocket detail too.

I always wear belts with my trousers (I’ve built up quite a collection). The pattern has interesting belt loop detail with 2 wider loops at the front, and 3 narrower at the back. It’s a simple detail but makes such a difference to the overall look of them.

I also love that these trousers can totally be dressed down as well as up. Here they are with a simple t-shirt and converse.

I can’t wait to make my next pair of Nita trousers. I’m thinking a nice cord pair would be perfect, and then maybe a pair in a quality wool. Watch this space!

Thanks for reading, I hope that you like them as much as I do. I’d definitely recommend especially if you are petite sizing. 5ft 4” or below is what Amy drafts for, but of course you can lengthen as required.
