The Linen Deer & Doe Myosotis Dress
This Deer & Doe Myosotis pattern is my most made dress. I love it. It’s so easy to wear and is actually pretty quick and easy to make. This version is made from a beautiful Merchant & Mills linen which is wonderful quality and was a dream to sew. Oh and this dress has pockets!
I’m so happy that the colour of this linen version fits in with my soft colour palette. It’s a beautiful neutral colour (named Peche) with grey threads running through it which gives it a bit of definition and interest. Just look at how well it matches.
I think that linen works particularly well with this pattern as it gathers, creases and presses so well, perfect for the gathered sleeves and skirt sections. I always like to hand-gather to give me good control to make them as even as possible.
You can get a little creative with the buttons. I used super cute ceramic rose buttons, they were from Whim Wham buttons who sadly don’t seem to be trading anymore :(
I find that I dont need to unbutton it to take it on and off, so you may get away with not sewing button holes and make it a faux button placket.
I like to wear this pattern with a belt to make it a little more shapely at the waist. However I do need to add some belt loops though to help the belt stay in place as it currently slides down as shown in some of these pictures.
For me this dress is the perfect length. As I’m only 5ft 3” I need to go short above the knee, or longer midi length, at the knee tends to cut me off and make me look shorter. It’s really easy to add length or shorten as the skirt is just gathered rectangles.
I made this dress as a Minerva Ambassador post so I got the fabric for free in return for writing a blog post. The fabric is still available and you can find it Here.
You need approximately 3m of fabric for the gathered skirt/sleeves version.
I have worn this dress a lot since I made it. Here it’s styled for autumn/winter with boots and a belt, but it can just as easily be worn in spring/summer with sandals.
I also like to style it with my mac for a smarter look.
I do have a couple more versions of this dress that I will share soon, one I love, the other I love but it was the first one that I made and its a bit too big, and not one of my best colours (I fell between sizes and sized down on the later versions).
For costings, this dress cost approximately
3m M&M linen fabric approx £96 (but I got this for free)
Pattern PDF approx £10 (although I have made several versions of this dress so its paid for itself now)
Gutterman sew all thread approx £2
Buttons approx £5
TOTAL approx £113
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!
