The Linen Closet Core Patterns Elodie Dress

It’s been a while since I made this beautiful Closet Core Patterns Elodie dress, but sorting through my wardrobe (following my recent colour analysis) has made me try it on again. I totally forgot how much I love it and its in my soft colour palette with its greenish blue colouring. The grey threads that run through the fabric make it more muted which is perfect.

This version is made from the most gorgeous Merchant and Mills linen which is so lovely to wear and hangs so beautifully. I love how linen softens and improves the more that you wear it.

I was given this fabric for free in return for sharing a blog post over on Minerva.com, it is sold out but you will find very similar on Minerva or Merchant & Mills

The pattern has some really nice details, especially the underbust release pleats, although I do think that I may size down at the bust next time. It’s a full wrap so there is no accidental flashing if I’m taking a walk in a breeze.

I love the dolman style sleeves. I’ve made the longer version but there is also a short sleeve option. The only down side that I find with this type of sleeve is that it can be difficult to wear with a coat/jacket that has tight sleeves and especially with linen they could end up looking quite creased.

As always with Closet Core patterns, the instructions were fantastic. Very detailed and clear throughout. There wasn’t anything overly difficult with this dress. The only thing that went a little wrong for me was sewing the hole to pass the tie through, I think next time I will do a bound button hole.

I may take my dress up a little shorter. It’s fine wearing it with boots but when I first made it and wore with flat shoes it felt like it cut me off a little, I will assess the situation in the spring!!

In summary, I really like this dress. It feels really classy to wear, it can be worn in any season (it could even be worn over a turtle neck in a cold winter) and the fabric is just the best.
